Here are pictures from my visit to Dublin Gulch in Death Valley, California, near Shoshone. Keep an eye out for details about Phantom Frost in the descriptions below them.

“A large black bird with a red featherless head, roosting among the cemetery trees, flew skyward at his approach, hissing as it spread its wings to their full six-foot span. (Shivurr, Phantom Frost)

“The cliffsides, composed of caliche clay—gravel, sand, clay and silt—were not tall, varying in height from ten to twenty feet.” (Shivurr, Phantom Frost)

“Holes had been carved at intervals into the sides, some of which were sealed with padlocked doors, denying entry.” (Shivurr, Phantom Frost)

“I wandered up and down, searching for an opening as the desert wind sucked the moisture and coolness from my body.” (Shivurr, Phantom Frost)

“The primitive domicile was considerably cooler than outside, though still warmer than my comfort zone, but out of the sun with a cold drink in hand, I felt almost content.” (Shivurr, Phantom Frost)

“A second silhouette, this one closer than the first, scuttled across the pile of rusty cans that I’d passed earlier in the day.” (Shivurr, Phantom Frost)
If you’ve read Phantom Frost, you should know that its sequel, Frost God Rising, launches in June, 2023. If you haven’t read it, or it’s been a while, you might want to read or listen to Phantom Frost and Fire Demon Dawn to prepare for the frost god’s rise.
